Notes & Trivia
Terminology for frankenmonsters evolved in Monster High, with 'frankenmonster' standardized in Generation 3.
For the duration of the first two generations, Monster High (location) struggled with what to call frankenmonsters. As was the style at the time, Frankie Stein (G1) was marketed as the "Daughter of Frankenstein" and didn't need to have her species identified by name. Her sister Alivia Stein (G2) was similarly only marketed as "Family of Frankie Stein (G2)". In Ghoul Spirit, the term used in the character selection screen is "mash-up monster" and in New Ghoul in School (video game), it's "frankenstein". The term "frankenmonster" (fully referred to as "Frankenstein monster") came into use with Frankie Stein (G3) in Generation 3, which did away with the "Child of"-angle and marketed characters as their species. The term "frankenbeast" for a frankenmonster designed after an animal was also introduced in Generation 3.
Media Appearances
Frankenmonsters feature prominently in Monster High Generations 1, 2, and 3, with origins tracing back to the original novel.
In Generation 1, frankenmonsters are not tied to a single lineage, with Victor Frankenstein (G1) creating Viktor Stein and others.
Frankie Stein (G2) is the daughter of Frankenstein's Monster in Generation 2, from whom she got separated during the Great Monster Fright Flight. She took up residence in a power plant and later moved to Monster High (location) (G2).
In Generation 3, the dog-like Watzie (G3) is a frankenbeast created by Doctor Blunder in the 1970s. Frankie Stein (G3) was created in 2022 by Victor Stein (G3) and Mary Stein (G3).
