Overview
Ghosts are souls or spirits of deceased beings that manifest to the living and are featured across Monster High generations.
Ghosts are the soul or spirit of a deceased person or animal that can appear, in visible form or other manifestation, to the living. Descriptions of the apparition of ghosts vary widely from an invisible presence to translucent or barely visible wispy shapes to realistic, life-like visions, and they are believed to haunt popular locations, objects, or people associated with their life.
In Monster High, ghosts appear across Monster High generations with varying origins and traits.
Portrayers
No specific portrayers are listed for ghosts as a collective species.
Ghost characters in Monster High are voiced by various actors depending on the individual character and media appearance.
Character
Ghosts are depicted as translucent, floating spirits often adorned with chains, capable of phasing through objects.
They are spirits derived from the deceased, with translucent bodies and the ability to float and phase through solid objects. A common trait of ghosts in the Monster High universe is that they wear chains all around them (with some exceptions).
Kiyomi Haunterly is a noppera-bō or "Japanese faceless ghost", she has no face, but she is able to project a likeness of eyes and a nose to show emotion. When she has a face though, her features will be outlined by a white line, making her eyes naturally white. Her body is sky blue and fades at the limbs.
In Generation 2, ghosts look no different, though Ari Hauntington is able to take on a human form. Ghosts in Generation 3 look similar to previous generations.
- Floating and phasing through solid objects (directly stated).
- Human disguise (Generation 2, Ari Hauntington).
- Projection of facial features (Kiyomi Haunterly).
Relationships
Ghosts share a world with other spectral monsters and can form hybrids with other species.
In "Haunted", it was revealed that ghosts have a world of their own and that monsters such as Banshees, Phantoms and Grim Reapers can also live in this world.
- Sirena Von Boo (half-ghost)
- Ari Hauntington
- Kiyomi Haunterly
- Spectra (poltergeist, G3)
Notes & Trivia
Ghosts celebrate Chainsgiving and their origins differ by generation, from deceased humans to born monsters.
Ghosts celebrate a holiday called "Chainsgiving". They hang decorations on the Chainsgiving tree and have a messy feast.
In Generation 1, it's heavily implied that at least some of the ghosts were originally humans who became ghosts. In Generation 2, it's unclear if ghosts are born as ghosts or were humans. In Generation 3, ghosts have always been monsters, making them poltergeists.
In G2, Ari Hauntington disguised as human pop star Tash, admired by Draculaura, and later attended Monster High as human ambassador after exposure by Moanica D'Kay.
