Character
Twyla is a quiet, introverted, sweet, and knowledgeable boogey monster with shadow-based abilities and sensory sensitivities.
Twyla is depicted as a quiet and introverted character who prefers to stay in the shadows, where she is most comfortable. Despite the creepy reputation boogey monsters hold in the monster community, Twyla is anything but. She's sweet, gentle, kind, thoughtful, and observant. She is very knowledgeable, enjoys reading, and is always excited to learn something new. In classes with Frankie, she consistently sat in the back row and was one of the smartest students Frankie knew.
Furthermore, Twyla is Autistic, and part of her condition includes sensory sensitivity. She's easily startled by loud noises and often wears noise-canceling headphones. Without them, she gets overwhelmed and turns into a shadow. She is the happiest in the quiet library. Everyone at Monster High is aware of this. Twyla also stims and uses a sensory bracelet to help manage big emotions. Twyla also experiences discomfort with physical touch. She also mentions having a list of her abilities, implying she likes things in proper order. In addition, Twyla also mentions that she dislikes change.
Before the Boo Crew's creepover party at the library, Twyla preferred to stay in the shadows, away from the other students. However, her newfound friendships with Draculaura, Clawdeen, and Frankie helped her come out of her shell.
Twyla was afraid of growing up, fearing it meant becoming a different person and giving up what she loves. However, with the support of her friends and Mr. Mothmanson, Twyla realized that she doesn’t have to change who she is and that she can still be herself and choose who she wants to be as she grows up.
Twyla is a slim, lavender-skinned teenage boogey monster with darker-colored marks that cover most of her hands and legs to her calves, shaped like shadows. She sports long hip-length, greenish-cyan wavy hair with straight bangs and dark purple streaks.
Her eyebrows are colored in a dark teal, and her purple eyes have thick eyelashes protruding from them. Her makeup consists of eyeshadow that is the same color as her hair, followed by dark purple nail polish on her fingernails.
For attire, Twyla wears a doorknob-shaped hairclip and a set of small, purple bedbug-shaped earrings. She wears a long, mid-quarter-sleeved purple sweater with turquoise trim, a pattern of lilac and cyan clouds printed all over it, and a medium-sized black bow in the middle. In addition, she sports a turquoise belt with a bunny-shaped buckle around her waist. Her sweater is worn with a two-layered black skirt with turquoise trim, magenta spider webs and cyan clouds printed all over it. She also wore high-heeled dark purple Mary Jane shoes with door designs in the black soles, and her accessories includes an orchid-studded bracelet and a turquoise-beaded bracelet on her right wrist.
  • Read with eyes closed: Twyla can read while sleeping.
  • Dream-Walking: Twyla can enter dreams by going into the dreamworld. She can affect the dream or nightmare the person is having. It's currently unknown how she can affect the dream, but as seen in "Nightmare Scare", it's most likely through encouraging words, which might make the nightmare stop.
  • Shadow-Walking: Twyla can morph within the shadows, invisible to everyone. She can also teleport through shadows, fading through one and reappearing through another.
  • Shadow Manipulation: Twyla can create shadows and manipulate them via shadow puppetry. She can form the shadows into any shape, basic or complicated. Anyone can see these shadows, as seen in "Creepover Party".
  • Glowing Eyes: Twyla's eyes glow in the dark allowing her to see in the dark.
  • Shadow Perception: Twyla can feel anomalies in the shadows.
  • Reality Manifestation: Dreams manifested in the dreamworld can be manifested into the real world, as shown in "Boogey Nightmare".
  • No Light: Twyla's shadow-related powers rely on light; without it, there are no shadows to manipulate.
